Description
From a simple subsidiary to a modern multidisciplinary university, remarkable achievements have been made.
On 29 March 1968, President houali boumedine laid the foundation for the University of Constantine, whose official "birth certificate" was Decree No. 69.56 of 17 June 1969. It is worth noting that the Constantine University Center was established by a decree signed by the president of the French Republic in 1961, which established two university centers in Algeria: one in Oran and the other in Constantine.
After independence, starting in 1962, Constantine will receive higher education in specific majors, such as literature and language, precision science, medicine and pharmacy. It is still supervised by faculty members of the departments of the University of Algiers. At that time, the number of students was small, guided by teachers recruited mainly in the capacity of technical cooperation, and there were few teaching materials, such as scientific materials for documents, experiments, demonstrations and research.
However, the will of the government and the commitment of some people, as well as the commitment of some people led by Mohamed Seddik benyahia, Minister of higher education, will soon change this situation. The University of Constantine will build a huge construction site at the University of Constantine according to the plan formulated by Oscar Niemeyer, a famous Brazilian architect. On 140000 square meters of land, it is expected to quickly provide 4000 teaching places and four amphitheaters, swallowing 11400 cubic meters of concrete. It is here that the University of Constantine began its comprehensive expansion, led by Amar bendali, the first president. He is the project manager of Slimane zouaghi and is in charge of the state-owned enterprise ECOTEC.
