ADU, A Key Incubator in Advancing Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies in The UAE
ADU is helping to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges by empowering future leaders in science and supporting world-class research. Professor Mohammad Alkhedher, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering is participating as a researcher and contributor to a virtual research institute (VRI) under “ASPIRE”, a technology, research and innovation program in the UAE.
The VRI focuses on the production, storage and utilization of sustainable energy. The institute supports wider R&D efforts in cutting-edge technologies that are vital to Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development. These efforts span the areas of sustainable power generation, energy storage, renewable energy integration, smart grid and demand-side energy efficiency.
The VRI is hosted by Khalifa University and includes Abu Dhabi University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University Abu Dhabi and the Indian Institute of Technology.
On the one hand, Professor Alkhedher, along with a team of students, is currently researching the potential use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in predicting electrical failure in lithium-ion batteries (a type of rechargeable battery). The project has won another grant from ASPIRE, for its outstanding research and contribution to innovation in the country’s strategic sectors.
